Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's One-Day International Team to Face Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-game ODI series facing India, as in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw earning a surprise inclusion.

Performance Issues Result in Omission

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international squad after being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of 47 in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has played 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a return to the Test team as Australia seek a answer to their opening batting issues.

Pace Returns and Injury News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after having time off since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he aims to recover from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”
