A ranking policeman that leaped to the help of a colleague who was ambushed by a knife attacker received the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a weapon to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist following a vehicle incident in that location in mid-2023.

Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.

"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft could be heard saying over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera footage shared by the police department showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood covering head, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife extended.

He ran into the policeman who lost balance and fell to the street, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the floor despite being repeatedly struck with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a open target, bringing the struggle to an finish.

Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Please provide assistance on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained multiple lacerations to his neck and more wounds to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster experienced knife wounds.

Officials reported Sgt Foster used his bare hands to stem his partner's hemorrhaging before emergency responders arrived.

This most recent honor arrives after the three officers were granted internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the area officer association in early 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Bravery Award in July 2024.

"The actions of each policeman in the end protected one another and ensured no members of the public experienced any harm."

Brown received a sentence to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, as stated by authorities.
